Call for Research Associates for a Project in the Computational Neuropathology of Psychiatric Disorders
The Research Centre for Computer Science and Information Technologies (RCCSIT) at the Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts (MASA) seeks to engage research associates for a projectfor a period of three years, within a research programme in the field of computational neuropathology of psychiatric disordersin cooperation with the New York State Psychiatric Institute at the Columbia University in New York.
We seek motivated candidates with proven computing skills to work in:
Position 1 – a) protocols for quantifying cellular structures in microscopic images of the human brain by applying a broad range of morphometric techniques; and b) innovative solutions for optimising and accelerating depth focusing in laser microscopy through machine learning. Previous experience in programming deep neural networks on GPUprocessors will be considered an advantage;
Position 2 – statistical models of different types of biological data—molecular expression of RNA and proteins, DNA methylation, and cellular-structure parameters—to identify potential biomarkers of psychiatric disorders. Previous experience with graphical models and machine learning will be considered an advantage.
Candidates are expected to hold a degree in computer science, electrical engineering, physics, mathematics or a related technical discipline, and to have acquired programming and computational skills relevant to the research problems described above through undergraduate and/or postgraduate study or professional engagement.The collaborative nature of the project requires an advanced command of English.
Please submit your CVtogether with a motivation letter in English of no more than one page to Academician Professor Ljupcho Kocarev, the project leader, at lkocarev@manu.edu.mkno later than Friday, 5 February 2021.
