„Science for kids”

Our website will go live on Wednesday, May 6, 2020 at noon. http://naukazadeca.mk/

#ScienceForKids is an initiative that originated with a group of scientists and teachers, but is open to everyone. It is a non-commercial initiative that promotes a culture of science and mental fitness among the youngest! Additionally, it currently serves as a source of digital educational resources that can be directly used in the teaching process.

„Science for Children” is under the patronage of the citizens' initiative Kantarat (http://qantarot.blogspot.com/). OHO joined that initiative (www.oxo.org.mk) in order to encourage the digital transformation of Macedonian education, and the non-governmental organization DIG-ED (http://dig-ed.org/whose mission is to promote digital resources in education.

The coronavirus has forced us to seriously consider the digitization of Macedonian education. At this point, parents understand that children have a limited attention span when they are not together with their teachers and classmates. Teachers are aware that the system was not designed to support distance learning and that the curriculum needs to be adapted to the new reality. Scientists have a chance to promote scientific literacy among the youngest, using the resources that are readily available.,

There are three sources of information that we share on #NaukaZaDeca. In collaboration with FuseSchool (https://www.fuseschool.org/) We selected videos from the natural sciences that the teachers who joined the initiative annotated and translated into Macedonian. OHO will use the translations to synchronize the videos in Macedonian. The scientists who joined the initiative are creating descriptions of scientific experiments that can be performed at home. Finally, we also invited students (first from Finki, but the call is open to everyone) to create short videos of experiments done at home and share them on social media with the hashtag ##ScienceForKids.

Our plan is to translate at least 100 educational videos. Additionally, we will implement a feature to ask questions related to the videos and to pinpoint the exact location in the video where the answer can be found. We hope that the number of experiments will grow, and that a large number of scientists, teachers, students, and science enthusiasts will join this initiative. Our desire is for as many digital educational resources and content as possible to be created in the Macedonian language.
