British Embassy Skopje – Ambassador for a Day competition 2024

The British Embassy in Skopje invites female students in North Macedonia aged 18 to 22 to enter a competition to be an Ambassador for a Day.

Ambassador Matthew Lawson announced the competition on the Embassy's social media accounts on Facebook and Twitter.

This competition will give the winner the unique opportunity to shadow the British Ambassador to North Macedonia during the week of International Women's Day and learn about the work of an ambassador and other diplomatic leaders.

Women and girls make up half of the world's population and therefore half of its potential. Today there are too few women in international diplomacy, including women from underrepresented backgrounds—whether ethnic, religious, economic, cultural, or personal identity, among others. To end this underrepresentation, we must ensure equality of opportunity and equitable outcomes for everyone. That is why we are encouraging women to make their voices heard on issues that affect us all.

We encourage young students to become leaders and advocates for change by offering them the opportunity to take a look behind the scenes of the British Embassy in Skopje on March 6, 2024.

We will be celebrating International Women's Day (IWD) together, and this competition should highlight women's roles.

To enter, interested applicants must write an essay in English answering the following question in no more than 500 words: “Which influential British woman would you like to meet and why?” and send to BritishEmbassySkopje@fcdo.gov.uk until February 28, 2024.

More information on the Ambassador for a Day competition and how to enter can be found here.

Looking forward to receiving many entries and inspiring female students to be an Ambassador for a Day at the British Embassy Skopje.
