Game art @ Skopje

In gaming, the most in-demand positions are still artists: 2D artists, 3D artists, animators, creative directors, props, environments, concept design… the list goes on.

Therefore Student Government Association is embarking on a small tour of the region. In collaboration with MGI and MAGDA, we're presenting a meetup dedicated to this topic. In the heart of Skopje, we'll discuss the diversity of this creative profession, which is ultimately fulfilling, whether you're a fan of AAA, indie, or solo work. This SGA event will also be used to exchange information about their Playing Narratives, a project through which young people are introduced to gaming.

Lectures

  1. Creating a visual style and assets for AA – What is a visual style in games? Creating a visual style for Odium to the Core. What does character creation for Skopje look like from idea to implementation in the game?.
  2. Game art in indie games: a fusion of creativity and gaming What is it that makes a game? Its story, mechanics, atmosphere, sound, characters… but these components must be reached through conceptualization, and this is where game art is key. We will go through several important points on game art, building and practically using visual libraries, transferring the concept to paper (or a screen), finding an adequate style for projects, as well as other basic components of this field.
  3. Pocket-Sized Art: The Magic Of Making Optimized game assets Different rules apply to the smallest screens, whether it's for characters, UI, or the map. These games need to bring players back to their worlds every day, so the creative direction here is a bit different.
  4. Playing Narratives – a ticket to entry into the gaming industry

Admission is free, and after the lectures end, we invite you to stay and get to know each other over a drink while we continue our conversation about our favorite topic, video games. See you at Netaville.
