Dr. Ana Madevska Bogdanova
She was born in 1967 in Skopje. She completed her primary and secondary education in Skopje. In 1991, she graduated from the Institute of Informatics at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics in Skopje as the top graduating student of the academic year. She also began working as a research associate at the Institute of Informatics in 1992. In 1996, she earned her master's degree on the topic „Modification of Multilayer Neural Networks without Feedback and Their Study“ (Master of Informatics), and in 2003, she defended her doctoral dissertation titled “Shape Recognition Using Support Vector Machines and Feedforward Neural Networks“ (Doctor of Informatics) at the Institute of Informatics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. Since the spring of 2004, she has worked as an associate professor at the Institute of Informatics and teaches courses in: intelligent systems, bioinformatics, operating systems fundamentals, programming fundamentals, object-oriented and visual programming, methodology of computer science teaching, practicum, and information technology in education. She also teaches in the graduate programs in computer science and biology. Prof. Madevska-Bogdanova's main area of scientific interest is the field of artificial intelligent systems – pattern recognition, bioinformatics, data mining, and she also works on the formalized representation of knowledge and the methodology of computer science education. She has published around 40 papers in the areas of her interest in books, journals with an impact factor, international journals, and proceedings from international and domestic conferences. She has published several teaching aids, as well as materials for all the courses she has taught. She was an editor for the journal Bit+, published by II. She has participated in a total of 7 domestic and 8 international research projects. Madevska-Bogdanova has been a visiting scholar at several foreign universities. She attended the International Summer School for Cognitive Science in Sofia and the ERASMUS program for Mathematical Methods in Technology in Antwerp, Belgium. As part of a TEMPUS project, she had a 3-month stay in Leuven, Belgium. Over the past 15 years, she has had several professional stays at the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium, and Maastricht University, the Netherlands. She was an invited lecturer at the University of Maine, USA. From 2003 to 2005, she was the head of the II Computer Center, and from 2005 to 2009, she was the head of the Institute for Informatics and managed the II's promotional activities. Since 2009, she has been the Head of the Institute of Informatics. She is a member of the Association of Informaticians of Macedonia and has served as the chairperson of competition committees on several occasions. She is a member of the European Neural Networks Association.
