Dr. Andrea Kulakov
(October 2011) Andrea Kulakov graduated from high school in 1990 at the age of 16, after successfully completing two school years in one (7th and 8th grade, and 11th and 12th grade). She then enrolled at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Skopje and graduated in 1995 with the highest grade point average of 9.91 in her 1990-95 class. In 1995, he began postgraduate studies in Cognitive Sciences at the New Bulgarian University in Sofia, Bulgaria, in a small international group of students taught in English. He completed the studies with excellent results (5.71 out of a max. of 6.00). In July 1998, he defended his master's thesis, “Vygovorotsky – An Anticipative and Analogy-making Actor,” with excellent results (5.50), before a five-member international committee (without his mentor). In 1999, the master's degree was recognized at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Skopje. During his nine-month military service in 1999, he also worked as a teaching assistant at the Military Academy for the subject „Computer Science.“ He then worked for six months at the international software company Mac-System, during which he spent a month and a half in training in Paris, France. From April 2000 to September 2011, Andrea Kulakov was employed at the Institute of Computer Technology and Informatics at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering (later the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology) in Skopje, first as an assistant, and from 2007 as an associate professor. He has taught several courses in the fields of Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, and Databases at both undergraduate and graduate levels. In June 2005, she won the award for research leading to a doctoral dissertation from the largest society of electrical engineers, IEEE, specifically from their Society for Computational Intelligence (http://ieee-cis.org/edu/research/ below, in the 2005 section). In December 2006, he defended his doctoral thesis “Data Management in Wireless Sensor Networks” at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology. He was a researcher and principal investigator on several domestic and international projects funded by the Ministry of Education, the TEMPUS programs, and the European Union's Sixth Framework Programme. In 2008 he founded the advanced technology research and development company NI TEKNA – Intelligent Technologies (www.ni-tekna.com), which works on the development of advanced solutions where the application of artificial intelligence techniques is necessary. In March 2011, he was one of the founders of the Faculty of Informatics and Computer Engineering in Skopje. In August 2011, he was appointed head of the Institute for Intelligent Systems at the Faculty of Informatics and Computer Engineering. He is responsible for several undergraduate and graduate courses in the fields of artificial intelligence, data analysis, robotics, and wireless sensor networks. He has published over 60 scientific papers in international conferences and journals, as well as a book chapter. His research focuses on the areas of robotics, business intelligence, image and sound processing, and other subfields of cognitive sciences and artificial intelligence. In addition to his native Macedonian, he is fluent in English, Serbian, and Bulgarian, and also has working knowledge of German, French, Russian, and Slovenian.
