Dr. Boro Jakimovski

He was born in Skopje on 1 March 1978, where he completed his primary and secondary education with excellent results. During his schooling, he participated in and won prizes at several competitions. In 1996, he won first prize at the National Informatics Competition for Secondary-School Students and represented the Republic of Macedonia at the 8th International Olympiad in Informatics and the 4th Balkan Olympiad in Informatics. Upon completing secondary school, he was named the top student of his generation. At the same time, he successfully completed English-language courses at the Foreign Language Centre in Skopje and obtained the University of Cambridge First Certificate in English. He enrolled in informatics studies at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics in the 1996/97 academic year. He graduated in 2000 as the best student at both the Faculty and the University, with an average grade of 9.91. During his studies, he received numerous distinctions for participating in international student programming competitions organised by ACM. In 1999, as a member of the Institute of Informatics student team, he won second place and qualified for the 24th ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest World Finals, held in Orlando, USA, in 2000. After his third year of study, he spent time at Philips Research Laboratories in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, where he studied coding techniques for multicast protocols. From October 2000 to March 2001, he worked as a teaching demonstrator at the Institute of Informatics within the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, after which he was appointed junior teaching assistant. In 2001, he enrolled in postgraduate informatics studies at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, which he completed in 2004 by defending his master’s thesis, “Communications in Grid Technology”, under the supervision of Prof. Dr Marjan Gusev. In 2010, he obtained a PhD in Information Sciences after defending his doctoral dissertation entitled “Modelling and Verification of Grid Workflows”, and in 2011 he was appointed assistant professor. He teaches Network and Distributed Operating Systems, System Software, and Introduction to IT. At the Institute of Informatics, he has conducted practical classes in Introduction to Informatics 1, Introduction to Informatics 2, Finite Mathematics, Numerical Computing with Programming, Programming Languages, Computer Systems Architecture, Algorithms and Automata, Data Structures, Formal Languages and Automata, Operating Systems, Parallel and Distributed Processing, Network Operating Systems, Programming Theory, and System Software. He is the coordinator of an international FP7 project concerning the European Grid Initiative. He has contributed to 15 international projects in informatics and the advancement of informatics education. He played a significant role in the SEE-GRID, SEE-GRID-2 and SEE-GRID-SCI projects as the principal person responsible for technical activities related to implementing grid technology in the Republic of Macedonia. He has delivered lectures at more than 20 workshops and undertaken 10 short visits to universities and summer schools. His research interests include grid computing, high-performance computing, parallel and distributed processing, and genetic algorithms. He has published 18 scientific papers at international conferences and one scientific paper in an international journal.
