Dr. Dancho Davchev

Born in 1949 in Skopje. He graduated from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Belgrade (1972). He earned his Doctor of Engineering degree from the University of Orsay, Paris–Sud, France (1975). He received his doctorate from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Belgrade (1981). He conducted postdoctoral research at the University of California (1984-1985). He was hired at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Skopje in 1973 as an assistant. He was subsequently promoted to associate professor (1980), full professor (1985), and regular professor (1991). He has taught courses in the areas of structures and databases, distributed computer systems, multimedia systems and databases, information systems, and object-oriented systems. As an author/co-author, he has published more than 250 papers in international journals or conference proceedings, one university textbook, and the book “Multimedia Systems.” Many of his papers have been cited (hundreds of times) by other authors, as registered in SCI. He has been the principal investigator on 12 projects funded by the Government of the Republic of Macedonia, 19 international projects (funded by the US National Science Foundation, EU PHARE, TEMPUS, UNESCO, the Governments of France, and Italy) and more than 16 applied projects for industry (funded by Iskra Delta Ljubljana, ESM, the Ministries of Health, Economy, Defense, Veterinary, UKI M, and the World Bank). He is the recipient of the “Gjorče Petrov” award for 1996 for outstanding achievements in science. He is a member of IEEE (senior member) and ACM (senior member). During 2001/02, he was a visiting professor at several universities in the USA, primarily in Tempe, Arizona. Fields of interest: multimedia information systems, wireless sensor networks, biotechnologies, user interfaces, databases, distributed systems, data mining, ecology, mobile computing.
