Dr. Gjorgji Filipov

Gjorgji Vlasen Filipov was born in 1956 in Kavadarci. He received his doctorate in 1998 from the University „St. Cyril and Methodius“ in Skopje, in the field of technical sciences on the topic: „Industrial Property as an Indicator of Technological Development,“ under the mentorship of Prof. Dr. Vladimir Dukovski, he received his master's degree in 1985 from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering on the topic „Optimization of Small Nuclear Power Plants – Optimization of the Turbine Plant,“ under the mentorship of Prof. Dr. Konstantin Dimitrov. He graduated in 1981 from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering with a thesis on „The Finite Difference Method for Determining the Spatially-Temporal Distribution of Temperature in a Nuclear Reactor Fuel Rod,“ under the supervision of Academician Prof. Dr. Tome Boshevski. He has specialized in the fields of patent engineering, automation and automated production, management, and marketing. In 2008, he became a patent attorney before the European Patent Office in Munich; in 1998, he became an industrial property attorney, while in 1993, he specialized in the field of development management at the University of Management in Stirling, United Kingdom. In 1991, he completed a study program in management of market-oriented enterprises at the Karl Duisburg Society in Cologne, Germany. In 1989, for a specialization in robot manufacturing, he was at the Vukov Plant in Prešov, Slovakia. In 1988, he attended a specialized seminar on applied robotics with practical exercises in Rijeka, Croatia. In 1985, he had a three-month stay in Bonn, Germany, for specialization in the field of automated production at the company Klekner Miller Automation. Filipov speaks, writes, and reads English, German, Serbian, and Croatian fluently, and also uses Bulgarian, Russian, and French (reads and understands well, does not speak fluently, does not write). Regarding his professional career, Dr. Georgi Filipov was elected in 2009 to the title of Associate Professor with a Chair in Management at ITK. He is currently an Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Macedonia in Vienna. He also serves as Ambassador of the Republic of Macedonia to Slovakia (since January 2012), Japan (since May 2011), and Austria (since October 2010). Prior to that, he was the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Berin Intellectual Property Agency in Skopje, as well as Ambassador of the Republic of Macedonia to Berlin, Germany (2005-2010). In 2008, he was proposed by the Government of the Republic of Macedonia as a candidate for the position of Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization, Geneva, Switzerland. Until 2004, Filipov taught a group of subjects in the fields of Information/Communication Technology Management as well as Management, Management and Marketing, International Marketing, and Industrial Property Management at the University „St. Cyril and Methodius“, Skopje, Faculty of Natural and Mathematical Sciences and the Institute for Sociological and Political-Legal Sciences. From 2002-2004, he was a member of the Executive Committee of the International Federation of Inventors„ Associations, Geneva, Switzerland, and from 2001-2005, president of the Federation of Inventors and Authors of Technical Improvements of Macedonia. From 2000 to 2001, he was a consultant to the Government of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg on a project to build a technology monitoring center in Macedonia. Filipov is the founder and Chairman of the Board of the Berin Intellectual Property Agency, Skopje, from 1999 to the present. From 1999 to 2004, he was an associate professor of Marketing and Industrial Property Management at the University “St. Cyril and Methodius„ of Skopje, Institute for Sociological and Political-Legal Sciences. Gjorgi Filipov was appointed the first director of the State Institute for the Protection of Industrial Property in 1993 and held that position until 1999. Prior to that, from 1992-1993, he was the marketing director at Rade Končar – Instrumentation Engineering AD, and the director and founder of the company “Berin, Marketing, Research and Development LLC„ in Skopje. In the period from his graduation until 1992, he worked in the following positions: (1990-1992), Commercial Director of LLC Welding, Cutting and Automation, Skopje, (1989-1990), Director of LLC Special Machines and Electronics, Rade Konchar AD, Skopje, (1987-1989), Head of the Automation Department at Rade Končar AD, Skopje, (1983-1987), Development Engineer – Automation Designer, Rade Končar Instrumentation Engineering AD, (1981-1983), Mechanical Engineer Technologist at LLC Contactors, Rade Končar AD Skopje. Filipov has published several books and over 150 papers in Macedonian, English, German, Serbian, and Russian in the country and abroad.
