Dr. Marjan Gushev
Marjan Gušev, PhD, works as a professor at the University "St. Cyril and Methodius" (UKIM), at the Faculty of Informatics and Computer Engineering (Finki).
He is an experienced scientist, professor, and innovator, a manager and expert, with extensive knowledge and a deep understanding of scientific concepts from computer science and their application in a wide range of projects, including bio-engineering of medical signals, tele-medicine, edge computing, cloud and fog computing, parallel processing, implementation of electronic services, university management, IT strategy development and management, etc.
Has published 875 scientific and professional papers, 194 of which have an impact factor according to the Web of Science JCR 2020 report, with 572 citations and an H-index of 10, (according to Scopus, he has 238 indexed articles, 1,120 citations, and an h-index of 14, and according to Scholar Google, 506 articles, 2,800 citations, and an h-index of 24). Two of his papers from 2018 and 2017 have high citation counts of 50 and 37, respectively, according to Web of Science, and are in the 98th percentile of all possible articles. According to an analysis by UGJK, he is the professor with the most published articles indexed by Web of Science, averaging one article per month over the last ten years (the average for UGJK professors is 0.16 per year). He has published 3 patents with the World Intellectual Property Organization.
His extensive work experience includes cross-functional international work in a wide range of diverse fields, as evidenced by his role as project manager on 18 and participant on another 18 European Commission projects, such as H2020, FP7, FP6, COIN, and TEMPUS with a total budget of over 7 million euros, and is also the leader of 11 national projects, two of which are from the Innovation and Technology Development Fund, as well as a participant in three other national projects. He has implemented several projects in the field of E-Government and E-Business, which include the development of a national strategy and action plan, as well as the implementation of a triangular platform: university (knowledge) – government (management) – industry (application).
In his 30-year teaching career, he has taught 235 courses at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels, and has published 23 books and 30 textbooks. He has also been a mentor to 11 doctoral and 14 master's students, 12 of whom are now current university professors in the country and around the world.
He has organized 8 international conferences and 30 workshops, initiated and directs multiple laboratories and specialized academies, and is a member of several international associations in the field of computer science, including founding the IEEE Dew Computing Special Technical Society. He is the recipient of many awards and honors, such as multiple best paper awards at international conferences, an excellence seal from the European Commission for H2020, and the 2012 UКИМ Best Scientist Award. as well as the „St. Cyril and Methodius“ Award in 2016 in recognition of his achievements in teaching and educational activities, as well as his contributions to the development and advancement of higher education and the promotion of the University nationally and internationally.
In 2020, he was elected a corresponding member of the Slovenian Academy of Engineering.
