Dr. Mile Jovanov

Mile Jovanov He was born in 1980 in Kavadarci, where he completed his elementary and high school education as the top student in his class. He graduated from the Institute of Informatics at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics (PMF) in Skopje in 2002 as the top student in his class. He earned his master's degree from PMF in 2009 and his doctorate from Finki in 2013. After graduating, he was appointed a teaching assistant at the Institute. He has been employed since 2005 as a junior assistant/assistant at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (PMF), transferring to FINKY upon its formation, where he was appointed an associate professor in 2014, a full professor in 2018, and a regular professor in 2023. At FINKY, he was the Head of the Institute for Intelligent Systems. He has taught a dozen courses at the undergraduate, master's, and doctoral levels. He is the mentor for two doctoral students and has supervised numerous theses, and is the author of fifteen textbooks/handbooks.

He has been an organizer and/or chair of about twenty international conferences, seminars, and workshops, and is the author of more than 70 scientific publications in the fields of computer science education, competitive programming, the semantic web, and intelligent systems, published in international journals and conferences. He is an editor of an international journal and a member of the program committee for several prestigious international conferences. He has participated in and co-led several international projects.

He has served on the computer science competition committees since 2003, has been a competition organizer since 2008, and has been President of the Association of Computer Scientists of Macedonia since 2009. He has led Macedonian student teams in more than 30 editions of the top international computer science competitions (the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI), the Balkan Olympiad in Informatics (BOI), and the European and Balkan Junior Olympiads), winning over 80 medals. Since 2014, he has been President of the BOI, and since 2015, he has been an elected member of the IOI International Committee. He has chaired and organized a dozen editions of the Balkan Olympiads. He participated in the development of a dozen curricula for computer science subjects in primary and secondary public education, and served on several government commissions for education strategies and innovation. He is also one of the initiators of the new Mathematical and Informatics High School for talented students in Skopje.
