Dr. Nevena Ackovska

She was born in 1975 in Skopje. She completed elementary and high school in Skopje. During her education, she received several awards and honors at regional and national competitions in biology and mathematics. She began her studies in Computer Engineering, Informatics, and Automation at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Skopje in the 1994/1995 academic year. In 1995, she attended the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, MA, USA, where she was on the Dean's List. She graduated in 2000 from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Skopje with a grade point average of 9.52. In 2000, she was hired as a teaching assistant, in 2001 she was selected as a junior assistant, and in 2004 as an assistant at the Institute for Programming Engineering at the Faculty of Informatics. In 2003, she completed her postgraduate studies in Informatics at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (PMF) in the field of Artificial Intelligent Systems, defending her master's thesis titled “Information and Control Processes in a Biological Cell.” She earned her Doctor of Informatics degree in 2008 with the defense of her doctoral dissertation titled „System Software of Minimal Biological Systems.“ In 2009, she was appointed an Associate Professor at the Institute of Informatics at PMF. She has taught labs for a dozen subjects for computer science students, and has also conducted labs for chemistry and mathematics students at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, the Faculty of Agriculture in Skopje, as well as at the Police Academy and the American College of University in Skopje. She currently teaches 7 undergraduate courses and 3 graduate courses at the Institute of Informatics. She has been a collaborator on 6 scientific projects. She has participated in several specialized international schools and courses in the USA, Germany, Bulgaria, the United Kingdom, and Macedonia. She is the author of more than 40 papers, of which 2 have been published in journals, 2 in book chapters, and the rest in proceedings of international or domestic scientific conferences. She is the co-author of 2 teaching aids and one textbook on programming for computer science students, as well as one textbook on computer science for elementary education. She has organized 5 conferences and 2 workshops, and is also the editor of one proceedings volume. Her research areas are bioinformatics, robotics, and intelligent beings (natural and artificial). She is a member of: IEEE, the Association of Informaticians of Macedonia, the Center for Digitization of National Heritage at the Faculty of Informatics, and the Association for the Protection of Children in Macedonia (secretary for international relations, 1996-1997).
