Dr. Sonja Gievska

She was born in 1963 in Skopje. She graduated from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Skopje (1986), received her master's degree from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Zagreb (1993), and earned her doctorate from George Washington University, USA (2004). In 1990, she was hired at the Institute of Computer Engineering and Informatics at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Skopje as a junior assistant. She obtained the ranks of assistant and associate professor in 1993 and 2005, respectively. During her doctoral studies in the USA (1997-2003) and from 2006 to the present, she has lectured and participated in research activities at George Washington University, USA. Her research work is in the area of user interfaces, with a special interest in agent-based intelligent interfaces, context representation in intelligent systems, and multimedia systems. She is the author/co-author of approximately forty scientific papers published in international conference proceedings, edited books, and international scientific journals. She has participated in ten research projects in Macedonia and the USA. Her current research focuses on intelligent systems for supporting human-computer interaction, specifically for systems in which the safety and security of users and equipment are of critical importance.
