| 10. | Objectives of the course programme (competences) | Students will gain an understanding of the hardware, software, and system design of embedded systems. They will understand the importance of the interaction between hardware and software and the connections to sensors and actuators. They will acquire the fundamentals of embedded systems programming. Students will be able to define architectural requirements, including the hardware and software needed to build a modern embedded system. | ||||||||||||
| 11. | Course content | Microprocessors. Processor architecture for embedded systems. Comparison of different types of processors for embedded systems: microcontrollers, GPUs, heterogeneous SoCs, FPGA-based processors. Parallel I/O. Asynchronous and synchronous serial communication. Interrupts and timing measurement. Analog and digital signal conversion. Control, sensors, and actuators. Low-power techniques. Networking and mobility of embedded systems – a step towards the Internet of Things (IoT). Advanced serial communication protocols and memory for embedded systems. Embedded systems programming. | ||||||||||||
| 12. | Learning methods | Lectures using presentations, interactive lectures, exercises (using equipment and software packages), teamwork, case studies, guest lecturers, independent preparation and defense of a project assignment and a seminar paper. | ||||||||||||
