10.

Objectives of the course programme (competences)

Students are trained to become professors who can successfully identify students with the potential to expand their knowledge in computer science and solve algorithm-based problems, using advanced data structures and algorithms not covered by the regular curriculum. Future teachers are trained to impart foundational knowledge of the advanced program to students and to guide them in participating in national and international computer science competitions.

Course content

(1) Introduction (1) techniques for identifying gifted students (1) techniques for developing motivation for extracurricular activities
with gifted students (1) Idea-storming technique for developing algorithms (3) fundamentals of data structures and corresponding algorithms for competition tasks: (lists, trees, graphs), recursion, greedy algorithms, divide-and-conquer, dynamic programming
(4) types of competition problems (1) Rules and regulations for participation in International Olympiads (2) development of competition problems

Learning methods

Lectures using presentations, interactive lectures, exercises (using equipment and software packages), teamwork, case studies, guest lectures, independent preparation and defense of a project assignment and a seminar paper.
