Objectives of the course programme (competences)

The goal of the course is for the student to become familiar with the fundamentals of various media: audio, images, video, and animations, and to understand the different properties of each. To know and understand the various formats and to become proficient in using them for different applications for creating multimedia content. The student is required to develop a small multimedia product using the techniques and methods learned.

Course content

General concepts related to various media, the meaning, influence, and ubiquity of multimedia in contemporary society. Planning and steps in designing multimedia projects. Development of a script for a multimedia project. Storage and transmission of multimedia data. Text. Audio technologies. Graphics and images. Video technologies. Animations, computer technologies for animation and modeling development. Introduction to virtual and augmented reality. Techniques for compression and transmission of multimedia data. Copyright and performance rights - legal solutions.

Learning methods

Lectures using presentations, interactive lectures, exercises (using equipment and software packages), teamwork, case studies, guest lecturers, independent preparation and defense of a project assignment and a seminar paper.
