9. Prerequisites for enrolling in the course Probability and Statistics or Fundamentals of Information Theory or Business Statistics
10. Objectives of the course programme (competences) The student will acquire knowledge of using modeling techniques to evaluate the behavior of real-world systems. The student will gain the ability to construct, verify, and solve.
Models with varying levels of abstraction and detail will be covered. Methods for fitting the state and parameters of the models to real data, as well as predicting future behavior and "what-if" analyses, will also be covered.
11. Course content Introduction to modeling and simulation. Random number generation. Models of discrete and continuous systems. High-dimensional systems. State and parameter estimation with real data. Agent-based models. Game theory models. Stochastic models and their application in finance. Queueing systems. Optimization techniques. Dimensionality reduction methods.
12. Learning methods Lectures supported by slide presentations, interactive lectures, exercises (using equipment and software packages), teamwork, case studies, guest lecturers, independent preparation and defense of a project assignment and seminar paper, learning in an electronic environment (forums, consultations).
