| 10. | Objectives of the course programme (competences) | Introduction to basic statistical methods and techniques for presenting, analyzing, and investigating data. | ||||||||||||
| 11. | Course content | Introduction. Types of data, data collection, sample, frequency distribution of data, graphical methods for displaying the frequency distribution, exploratory data analysis. Measures of central tendency and dispersion of data. Modeling uncertainty. Basic elements of probability, conditional probability, independence, Bayes' theorem. Random variables, probability distributions, expectation and dispersion. Discrete distributions: binomial distribution, Poisson distribution, geometric distribution and applications. Continuous distributions: uniform, exponential, and normal distributions, basic properties, standardization and using tables to determine probabilities of events. Population and sample. Distribution of sample statistics. Parameter estimation: confidence intervals for the population mean, population variance, and proportions. Hypothesis testing. Correlation and linear regression. Nonparametric tests for matching distributions and independence of categorical characteristics. | ||||||||||||
