10. Objectives of the course programme (competences) The goal of the course is to prepare students for independent research and preparation.

11. Course content Academic writing. Quality assessment, Review of scientific work, Constructive criticism,
organizational and ethical rules, rules for citations and referencing, academic culture,
Student-centered learning, Anti-discrimination and equal opportunities. Overview of
Intellectual property and copyright law, scope and types of available publications and tools
for searching and indices, citation, bibliographies, and citation search. Process of
research, scientific research methods, sources of funding, proposal writing
research (projects), evaluation of research project proposals, planning of
research project, selecting results for publication, structuring scientific
papers, the process of evaluating a scientific paper, poster and paper presentations at conferences,
Publication in academic and engineering journals. Literature reviews, reading, and summarizing.

Learning methods Lectures supported by slide presentations, interactive lectures, practical classes (using equipment and software packages), teamwork, case studies, guest lecturers, independent preparation and defence of a project assignment and seminar paper, and learning in an electronic environment (forums and consultations).
