Objectives of the course programme (competences)

Upon completion of the course, the student is expected to have knowledge of managing the basic operational components, processes, equipment, data, human resources, and external contacts to ensure the efficient operation of the Internet infrastructure under their leadership.

Course content

Need and tasks of infrastructure management. Standard management architecture (IT Management Architecture). Management of Internet network infrastructure, system infrastructure, storage infrastructure. Interrelationships of categories and mutual influences. Software-based control of service quality. Use of standard management protocols, higher-level organizational practices, ITIL, shared resource usage. Performance management: latency and capacity. Software for managing and controlling networks and network devices. Security and management. Access control mechanisms. Infrastructure management tools.

Learning methods

Lectures supported by slide presentations, interactive lectures, exercises (using equipment and software packages), teamwork, case studies, guest lecturers, independent preparation and defense of a project assignment and seminar paper, learning in an electronic environment (forums, consultations).
