10. Objectives of the course programme (competences) For students to become familiar with the areas and problems covered by bioinformatics, to
be able to perform gene and protein sequence analysis, to use biological databases
data, to familiarize them with computational methods for solving problems in molecular
biology.
11. Course content What is bioinformatics? A central paradigm in bioinformatics. DNA sequence analysis.
RNA and protein secondary structure prediction. Tertiary protein structures and
their relationship to protein function. Introduction to computational tools and algorithms for
Problem-solving in molecular biology. Concepts of gene expression and technology.
Microfluids. Concept of systems biology. Regulatory structures in bioinformatics. DNA
Programming. Use of genomic and protein databases. Introduction to genetics.
