Subject goals and competencies:


The aim of the course is to learn the digitization process and techniques. Students should master the basic principles of managing digital materials and their preservation, as well as techniques and technologies for their presentation.

Lectures: 1. Introduction to digitization 2. Planning a digitization project 3. Copyright 4. Metadata 5. Digitization of images through scanning 6. Digitization of textual data. Optical Character Recognition (OCR) 7. Digitization of audio records 8. Digitization of video records 9. Digitization of 3D objects 10. Digital libraries and archiving software 11. Digital Preservation 12. Presentation of digitized records Exercises: 1. Basic concepts of digitization 2. Project management for the needs of digitization 3. Copyright 4. Development of the various metadata standards 5. Image digitization techniques. Image quality 6. Algorithms and techniques for text digitization. Optical character recognition 7. Image digitization techniques. Audio recording quality parameters. Audio formats and compression 8. Techniques for digitizing video records. Video quality parameters.
